The Critical Care Unit is situated on the second floor in the west wing (turn right out of main theatres, walk all the way down and round the corridor and it will be on your right hand side).
The unit has six level three (intensive therapy) beds and six level two (high dependency) beds.
Consultant ward rounds occur twice a day, in the morning after handover and again in the late afternoon / early evening. An intensive care consultant is always contactable 24/7 for advice and support.
Handbook
Please ask one of the intensive care consultants to provide you with a copy of the ITU handbook. This contains a comprehensive overview of the unit and lots of information you will find useful during your time on critical care.
ICCA
The critical care unit is completely paper free and all medical notes, observations, pathology results and prescribing takes place using ICCA (IntelliSpace Critical Care and Anaesthesia).
If you have not used ICCA before it would be worth clicking the button below to familiarise yourself with the basic functions you will be using on a daily basis.
Please note that drug charts / prescribing in critical care occurs solely on ICCA - this differs to the rest of the hospital which uses EPMA. It is imperative that a patient's EPMA chart is suspended on admission to critical care and subsequently updated and re-activated upon discharge.
